The Northern Paediatric Physician Training Network has been developed in association with IMET NSW Institute of Medical Education and Training. The hub of the network, the John Hunter Children's Hospital, is closely associated with the University of Newcastle.
There are seven other hospitals in the network, which include Tamworth Base Hospital, The Maitland Hospital, Gosford Hospital, Wyong Hospital, Manning Rural Referral Hospital, Tweed Heads and Lismore Base Hospital. The purpose of the network is to provide an organised education and training program for trainees in preparation for their FRACP examinations and their future career in the practice of paediatric medicine.
The Northern Paediatric Training Network has accredited training terms in Respiratory, Neurology, Neonatal Intensive Care, General Paediatrics, Paediatric Emergency, Oncology, Endocrinology, Genetics, Chronic and Complex Care, Community Paediatrics and Immunology.
Training programs are tailored to the developmental level of the trainee. Lectures and procedural experience in our skills and simulation lab are conducted by our local experts as well as visiting specialists from interstate. There is a preparation program for pre-examination candidates for both written and clinical examinations. Our trainees have protected time from clinical duties to attend training during their work time.
