Fundraising CD for sick kids
Sick
and sleepless children will be the benefactors of an exciting
new fundraising initiative launched in the Hunter on 11 November
2003.
The release to the Hunter community of “Cello
Lullaby” – complete with leading Australian classical Cellists
took place in the corridors of the John Hunter Hospital.
The “Cello Lullaby” is a CD recording of soothing
classical music made for therapeutic purposes. The arrangement
of music is designed to help infants, children and adults relax
and sleep.
It was produced by Dr Catherine Crock at the
Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, who wanted music to play
for children needing bone marrow and lumbar puncture procedures
as part of their treatment for cancer. It has also been developed
to assist in the management of unsettled and crying babies.
The Royal Children’s Hospital at Melbourne
has now formed an historic alliance with seven other children’s
hospitals across Australia, including the John Hunter Children’s
Hospital – as part of Kaleidoscope, the Hunter Children’s Health
Network.
All the hospitals are committed to furthering
the sales of “Cello Lullaby” Australia-wide with the proceeds
shared between all hospitals and directed to enhancing child
health services.
Kaleidoscope Director Professor Trish Davidson
said being part of this alliance was another wonderful opportunity
to partner with our communities to help sick children.
“I urge the community to get behind this wonderful
initiative. In the Hunter, fifty percent of the money raised
from all CD’s sold will be directly channeled to improve the
health care of children in the Hunter”, Prof Davidson said.
The music is performed by leading Australian
classical artists Alfred Hornung and Niall Brown. It was generously
recorded for the hospital by John Rowland of Rowland Productions.
The selection of works includes masterpieces by Handel, Bach,
Vivaldi, Haydn, Brahms and Couperin. Kaleidoscope was delighted
that Anthea Scott-Mitchell, lecturer in Cello at Newcastle University
and regular Guest Principal Cellist with the Sydney Symphony
Orchestra, was able to accompany Alfred at the launch…together
they made beautiful music enthralling the crowd of onlookers.
The CD retails for $24.95, with $16
donated to children's hospitals across Australia, including
the John Hunter Children’s Hospital.
