Volunteering

The wonderful team of volunteers at John Hunter Children's Hospital exist to support patients, families and staff in the hospital setting. Our volunteers are a diverse group of professionals, retirees, university students, mums, dads and grandparents.

Volunteers bring a wealth of skills, talents and experience which can make the hospital experience as pleasant as possible for patients and their families whilst supporting the staff whenever possible.  Our volunteers have excellent interpersonal skills and generosity of spirit which are qualities that bring to the workplace new enthusiasm, energy and creative input.  Volunteers enhance service delivery and help our organisation to receive valuable feedback on community issues.

As a volunteer you'll enjoy an important sense of teamwork as you collaborate with hospital staff to make a difference.

John Hunter Children's Hospital appreciates and is committed to volunteers and involving volunteers in a meaningful way by providing opportunities for self development. All volunteering has an element of on the job training and many volunteers are now developing new roles as Mentors for those commencing voluntary work.

Our volunteers are regularly involved in group training opportunities as well as celebrations and recognition of service events. The John Hunter Children's Hospital has been further supported by a partnership with Woolworths to enhance the recruitment, training and support of volunteers at the Hospital through the addition of a dedicated Co-ordinator.

As a volunteer at the John Hunter Children's Hospital you will be an integral part of our future and the future well-being of children. Volunteers make an extraordinary contribution to Australian society. Whether you're already volunteering or just starting out, there are a variety of roles to fit individual time schedules. Volunteers can work in many different ways, some directly with patients and others behind the scenes to make a difference.
