Clinics – Outpatient Services

Paediatric Outpatient Clinics are held at both the John Hunter Children's Hospital and Belmont Hospital.

The outpatient department is a very busy service that sees approximately 15, 000 children a year by 40 different specialists. There are 10 clinic rooms as well as a treatment room for small procedures.

The team consists of clerical staff who book appointments, attend phone enquiries, organise paperwork for clinics and attend to many other duties within the clinic.

Experienced paediatric nursing staff weigh and measure the height of children/adolescents on arrival and help with any procedures that may be required in the clinic.

A team of specialist doctors, nurses and allied health professionals hold clinics throughout the year. These clinics are often supported by Clinical Nurse Consultants who are specialised in a particular area of paediatrics.

1st Appointment (New):

Step 1

Your family Doctor or specialist should fax a referral letter to the John Hunter Children's Clinics on Fax: (02)49 223904 (this fax number is also used for Belmont Hospital).

(Please ensure your doctor includes all your contact details for us to contact you with an appointment time.)

Step 2

You will be notified by phone or letter with an appointment time.

Follow-up appointments are usually suggested by your specialist when completing your current appointment. Please see the clerical staff at the reception desk who will book your next appointment.

What to bring to your appointment

Please bring anything that may assist with the doctor's appointment e.g. Private x-rays or pathology results, photos/video etc

A current referral is needed and should have been faxed to the Clinic on Fax No: (02)49 223904 or brought to the clinic in person before your child's appointment is made.
