Thank
you for 17 years of support from John Hunter Children’s Hospital
Kids Club
Seventeen years and over $2 million in raised
money from the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Kids Club will
be celebrated tomorrow at their annual thank you day.
In the past year the Kids Club has raised over
$44,000, which has purchased equipment for the John Hunter Children’s
Hospital and Kaleidoscope Network.
This dedicated team of volunteers holds stalls
every second Tuesday and Friday at the Hospital, sells raffles
tickets at Newcastle Trot meets, holds a live theatre night once
a year and receives proceeds from a raffle held by the Woodturners
at the Woodturners Expo.
Their hard work does not go unnoticed in the
community with the Kids Club often receiving donations from other
community groups, corporations and individuals.
Members often come up with novel ways of raising
funds, like Val McLeish who while negotiating for a new car Kloster
Honda was able to gain their support for funding through the Honda
Foundation.
The grant totalled $3,951 and purchased two
mobile lights and one examination light for John Hunter Children’s
Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
John Hunter Children’s Hospital Neonatologist
Dr Paul Craven believes having 17 years of support from Kids Club
has contributed to many projects being fulfilled through their
fundraising.
“We’ve had many years of support from Kids Club,
whatever we’ve gone to them with they’ve always raised money for,”
Dr Craven said.
“They provide continual support; they’re absolutely
consistent in their fundraising.”
“We support the community through their support,”
Dr Craven said.
It is through the Kids Club fundraising efforts
since 1993 that the wider community has learned more about the
John Hunter Children’s Hospital services and the importance of
a Children’s Hospital in the Hunter.
