If we could “ReaCH” higher
The Hunter Children’s Research Foundation
(HCRF) is closing in on a milestone achievement as ReaCH 200 enters
its ninth year of fundraising.
$1,000,000 dollars of funds raised since HCRF’s
inception is in sight, with only $50,000 more needed through all
fundraising activities to reach this goal.
In order to achieve this goal HCRF is calling
on local businesses and individuals to join them in the 2010 ReaCH
200 challenge and make a difference to Hunter-based medical research
projects.
Invitations to join ReaCH 200 are being sent
to a variety of local businesses within the Newcastle and Hunter
Region in February.
Since its inception in 2002, the ReaCH 200 campaign
(Research for Children in the Hunter) has raised over $110,000
thanks to the generosity of Hunter businesses and individuals
committed to making a minimal annual donation of $200.
Through funds raised during ReaCH 200 campaigns,
local children’s medical research projects involving lead clinicians
at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital have made important contributions
to childhood illnesses.
“We are proud to be associated with the calibre
of our local clinicians dedicated to improving the lives of sick
kids and welcome opportunities to partner with our community to
help support their valuable work,” said Lorraine Gardner, founding
member of HCRF.
Since its establishment fourteen years ago,
the HCRF has raised $950,000. Money raised in the Hunter stays
in the region to fund research into illnesses affecting children,
including asthma, cancer, cystic fibrosis, diabetes and sleep
disorders.
“The Foundation is committed to improving the
health of young people of this region by supporting the work done
in our local children’s hospital,” said Janelle Shakespeare, current
chair of HCRF.
