Students band together in support of Children's Hospital
Students at Mount View High School will this week epitomise their school motto 'Pride and Loyalty' by supporting two fellow students in their fundraising effort for John Hunter Children's Hospital.
Year 8 students, Imogen and Madeline Tregenza, approached their teachers Karen Blandon and Rebecca Bartlett about doing a fundraiser at Mount View High.
The motivation for the students fundraising has come through their sister Ivy who has immune deficiency, which requires regular stays in the Medical Ward at John Hunter Children's Hospital.
Imogen and Madeline's mother Tiffany started the fundraising efforts for Ward H1 – Children's Medical Ward – because of the exceptional treatment Ivy receives when in hospital.
"The nurses and staff there are amazing and have always treated Ivy and our family with respect and kindness. They have been there for Ivy through the worst times and have celebrated the good time," Mrs Tregenza said.
At present 'Team Ivy' has raised over $5000 for Ward H1, the majority of which has been donated through an online community, who follow Ivy's story on Tiffany's blog http://mythreeringcircus.com.
On Wednesday, 30 June 2010 Mount View High hopes to add over $1000 to the money already raised when they hold Rainbow Day, an out of uniform day with a rainbow theme.
Students will bring a gold coin donation on the day and can purchase cakes and other food items, with all funds raised going to the Medical Ward at John Hunter Children's Hospital.
Student Representative Council Co-ordinator Rebecca Bartlett said the school has always assisted in supporting charities and organisations close to the students' hearts.
"It means a lot to our students to support personal causes and we hope that Rainbow Day will not only increase student and families awareness of the fantastic job the Medical Ward at John Hunter Children's Hospital does, but raise funds to make the stay for children and their families when in hospital as comfortable as possible," SRC Co-ordinator Rebecca Bartlett said.
Also getting behind the cause is Eagle Boys Pizza Cessnock who will donate $1 per pizza purchased between 4pm and 8pm on Monday 28 June.
