Tobwabba gives Koori Kids a Fresh Start

There’s a very special Club dishing out an early dose of the good stuff to kids at Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Centre.

The Tobwabba Breakfast Club is open to all school age Koori kids and serves nutritional breakfasts between 7.30am and 8.30am Tuesday to Friday during school weeks.

An initiative of the Tobwabba Aboriginal Medical Centre, and proudly supported by Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Campaign, ensures Koori Kids start their day with a good nutritious breakfast before heading off to school.

The Breakfast Club is a service commended by Dr Dylan Wesley, Paediatrician at Manning Rural Referral Hospital who conducts monthly clinics at Tobwabba.

“It is encouraging to see the numbers of kids joining in increasing and great to see them learning about the importance of kick starting every day with a healthy breakfast,” said Dr Wesley, visiting Paediatrician.

“The kids love the Breakfast Club and since it started in third term last year, attendance at school seems to be on the increase,” said Donna Hall, Chairperson of Tobwabba Medical Centre Advisory Committee.

Woolworths is committed to the Breakfast Club, donating a wide variety of cereals along with fruit, milk, orange juice and toast. The kids can also pack up a little lunch with two fruits - guaranteeing a nutritious snack during the day.

“We are delighted to be a partner in this essential early intervention program and as long as the kids keep coming, we’ll gladly continue to offer support,” said Woolworths Store Manager Foster, Gavin Lambert.

The Breakfast Club targets all school age kids and is open four days a week during school term. After enjoying a healthy breakfast, the kids then catch the bus to school or join others in a group, accompanied by volunteers, who walk to school.
