Busy department benefits from Hospital Appeal

John Hunter Children’s Hospital will be awarded a donation of $220,000 on Thursday thanks to the continued support of the local community and Woolworths staff through the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal.

The funds donated from the 2011 Appeal, along with previous campaigns will contribute to the refurbishment of one of the Children’s Hospital’s busiest departments, outpatients.

Over 15,000 occasions of service a year are performed in the outpatients Department by 40 different specialists. Refurbishments will begin in 2012; the new department will have 10 clinic rooms, a state-of-the-art respiratory laboratory, including infant/child lung function testing and allergy testing.

Director of John Hunter Children’s Hospital Mrs Pat Marks said the Hospital was extremely grateful to Woolworths, their staff and the community for their ongoing support and is looking forward to the completion of outpatients in 2012.

“The new outpatients department will provide patients and their families with a more child friendly environment and improve patient flow,” Mrs Marks said.

“This project is a continuation of a long term partnership with Woolworths, which in recent years has contributed toward the refurbishment of the paediatric allied health department and emergency waiting room.”

Giving Australians the opportunity to help make a difference and raise money for children’s hospitals in their communities, this year’s Appeal ran from 24 August to 28 October and Woolworths supermarkets around the country hosted local fundraising activities such as sausage sizzles and lamington drives.

Woolworths Regional Manager, Mr John Eales, said; “We would like to thank all our generous customers and dedicated staff who helped raise this extraordinary amount.  Woolworths is proud to continue to support the John Hunter Children’s Hospital and help local families and kids.”

The Woolworths Fresh Food Kid Hospital Appeal has been an annual event for more than 20 years, raising more than $60 million for medical equipment, facilities and research to help Australian children and has been supporting the supporting the John Hunter Children’s Hospital for 16 years with over $1 Million raised for children’s health services
