Swans fly in to Children's Hospital

Sydney Swans players Kieren Jack, Sam Reid and Ben Haron will migrate north on Wednesday where they will visit patients in John Hunter Children's Hospital, before moving on to an Auskick clinic in the afternoon.

The visit is part of the 2011 Telstra AFL Community Camps, which will be a novelty for patients in Newcastle who would not normally get to meet high profile AFL stars.

Organising the visit is 11-year-old Ky Lowrey, who although young has been a prolific fundraiser and supporter of John Hunter Children's Hospital.

Ky is a member of the Sydney Swans Junior Academy, and when he heard the players were visiting Newcastle he called the Swans to make sure they stopped by the Children's Hospital.

This visit adds to Ky's successes with his initiative ‘Try 4 Kids' who last year raised $5200 for John Hunter Children's Hospital.

"I love helping out, the smiles on the kids faces when they receive toys or visits makes me feel happy," Ky said.

"The best part about getting sports stars like the Swans to visit is seeing how excited all the kids get when the players enter their room.

"Hopefully this year I can raise even more money and continue to get sports people to visit the sick kids," he said.

The Swans are currently preparing for their NAB Cup opener against new rivals Greater Western Sydney on 19 February.
