Happy, Healthy Volunteers

Volunteers at John Hunter Children's Hospital play an integral role in making the hospital experience as pleasant as possible for patients and their families, while supporting staff where they can.

Each February we recognise the contribution our volunteers make in their role in children's health.

On Friday 11 February at 10am volunteers at John Hunter Children's Hospital will be treated to a morning tea and free health check from John Hunter Hospital's Staff Health Department.

The health check will consist of a blood pressure check, healthy lifestyle advice, a cholesterol check, weight loss tips, advice on quitting smoking and how to access our employee assistance programs.

Volunteer Coordinator Naomi Pope believes it is important we recognise the contribution our volunteers' make, and by providing a health pit stop we give our volunteers the chance to check on basic health concerns.

"We have over 65 volunteers who perform a variety of different roles and over 5000 hours of service per year," Naomi said.

"Not only do we want to thank them for their efforts in enhancing children's health, we want to make sure that they feel supported in their own health needs," she said.

Volunteers assist as ward grandparents, librarians, ward helpers, in the hospital school, in outpatient clinics and as fundraisers.
