Refugee Health Clinics

Hunter New England Health offers a free, voluntary and confidential Refugee Health Clinic and community-based consultations for children and families who have recently arrived from overseas on humanitarian refugee visas.

The services provided include:

  • Medical consultations, health screening and treatment
  • Health education and information
  • Immunisations
  • Referrals to other specialist medical services
  • Dental assessments and treatment

Health assessments do not affect a person's residency status in Australia but are important for improving the quality of life for each refugee starting a new life in the Hunter New England Health region.

All results are confidential. Interpreters can be booked for patients' appointments to ensure effective communication with health personnel.

Referrals to the clinic are received primarily from non-government resettlement organisations. The clinic does not provide ongoing health care. We can provide information on local GP services and specialist referrals as required.
