Hours: 8.30am-5pm, Monday to Friday as well as 24 hour on-call service
Referral required: Referrals required to see the paediatric endocrine specialist.

Catering for children and adolescents aged 0-18 years, the Paediatric Endocrine Service provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services to children and adolescents in the Hunter area and regional NSW through our hospital-based and outreach services. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team including Paediatric Endocrinologists, Diabetes and Endocrine Clinical Nurse Consultants, Dietitians and Social Worker. The services provided are:

  • inpatient services including diagnostic, acute care, education and stabilisation of newly diagnosed and pre-existing diabetes
  • diabetes and endocrine outpatient clinic
  • diabetes outreach clinics in Tamworth, Armidale, Ballina, Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Forster, Taree and Muswellbrook twice per year.
  • outpatient education, counselling and support services
  • outpatient telephone service (office hours)
  • 24 hour urgent telephone service - for families and health professionals by calling 0418 650 570 or calling the Hospital switchboard on 4921 3000 and asking for the paediatric endocrinologist-on-call
  • growth and metabolic screening
  • inpatient services including diagnostic services, dynamic endocrine testing, acute care and ongoing management
  • consultative service to the Hunter New England Area Health Service
  • endocrinology laboratory services (diagnostic and research)
  • extensive clinical research activities in diabetes, endocrine and growth.
  • parent support groups, toddler support groups, adolescent groups, and education evenings
