John Hunter Children’s Hospital delivers a primary
and specialist care service to children and young people within the
Hunter
New England Area Health Service. The Paediatric Orthopaedic Department
at John Hunter Children’s Hospital cares for children with musculoskeletal
conditions within the Hunter New England Area.
This encompasses the area from the Queensland border
to the Central Coast.
The Scope of Our Practice
John Hunter Hospital Campus provides 24 hour, acute,
tertiary level service for injuries and conditions affecting bones,
muscles & joints. John Hunter Children’s Hospital Paediatric Orthopaedic
Service treats children who:
Are 0-18 years
Live in the Hunter New England Area
Have a musculoskeletal problem that is the related
to the following disorders:
Congenital
Genetics
Infectious diseases
Metabolic
Neurological
Oncology
Spinal
Trauma
Services we do not currently provide are:
Acute spinal cord injury management
Limb salvage / lengthening procedures
Complex and large tumour management
Dorsal rhizotomy
Baclofen pumps
